TOWN BOARD.

ORDINARY .MEETING.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Town Board was held last evening, there' being present Messrs T. E. Palmer (Chairman), T. E Lemon, R. King, J. Brown, R. Tees, L. Bayliss, and A. Montgomery. ' The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirme,d. The Chairman reported that it had not been possible to get a man to investigate the condition of the well,,and-he suggested, that the matter be left in the hands of the Fire Brigade.. —This course was adopted.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded'Mr McLeod, of Papamoa, for presenting the Board with an ambulance stretcher.

A letter wasreceived from Mr Messenger, of Auckland, requesting information as to the' Town District boundaries in connection with the preparation of a map for the Board.

Votes of thanks were passed to the Hons. Fraser, andHerries, to Mr Macdonald, M.P., and to Mr Hannah, Resident Engineer, in connection with the recent railway excursion, and also to Messrs Bennett and McNaughton for their efforts in organising same.

The Chairman then read the Engineer's reports upon the water supply and street improvement schemes (as published elsewhere) and suggested that they be considered at a special meeting to be held on Monday next. The suggestion was adopted.. On the motion'of Mr King it was resolved.that a sub-commit-tee consisting of the Chairman and Messrs Lemon and Montgomery be appointed to collect all available information with regard to valuation, rating, etc.

Dr Young waited on the 3»oard with regard to the delay on the part of the Government in appointing him medical officer to the Natives in this district. He pointed out that although he had been practically promised the appointment in May last the matter was still, heldi.up,, yet since then Dr Stuart, of Tauranga, had received a similar appointment. ■ The Board resolved that the Minister for Public Health be written to and asked that Dr Young be appointed medical officer to the Natives on similar terms to Dr Stuart. The meeting then adjourned. .
