A special meeting of the Paengaroa branch of the Farmers' Union was held on Monday night, about} thirty settlers being present, in consequence of the receipt of the following telegram :
" Imperative call special meeting of branch and farmers Monday night next re strike. Letter posted, position serious." Some>24 ■names,-were handed, in of volunteers willing to act, as special constables at Auckland. It was resolved that a wire be sent the Prime Minister,: "That this meeting endorses the action of the Government'to maintain law and order, and pledges itself to do all possible to supply men and horses for Auckland."
