A LION HUNT
• ♦• ■' Berlin, October 20. Leipzig had the excitement of a lion hunt in the heart of the city, to-day. A cage containing eight lions, belonging to JBarnum's Circus, was proceeding down one of the main streets when it collided with a tram car.
• The "cage was knocked to pieces by the impact, and the crowd which had gathered to watch the progress of the menagerie was throwii into a state of. panic when the lions dashed from 'the cages, and, with terriffie roars, started to bound along the streets
Before any attempt could hi made by the officials of the circus .to capture them they had scattered all over the city, none disputing their right of way.
The police were' quickly on their tracks, and, aided by telephone messages from various points, they followed the beasts throughout the night, shooting six.
One of .the others dashed into' an hotel and ascended the staircase, where it was followed by its trainers and captured. Another took refuge on the top of a motor bus, and was also taken back into captivity. The damage caused by the hunt is estimated at £5,000.
