NGARUAWAHIA SALE. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company report: At Ngaruawahia, on August 29th, we had an entry of 1116 head of, cattle and 600' hoggets. There was a keen demand for all classes of cattle, including dairy cows and heifers, which sold a good deal better than at late sales. Forward condition bullocks, off turnips, made £7 15s to £9 ss, three-year steers off turnips £6 5s to £710s, 2|yr steers £5 15s, two-year steers, £4 lis to £5, 18 month steers'of good quality £4 to £4 ss; same aged steers, showing dairy strain, £2 10s to £3 ss,'really good yearling steers £3 10s to £3 17s, best yearling heifers £3 5s to £3165, mixed yearlings £2 to, £2155, fat cows and heifers £5 15s to £6 10s, empty two-year old heifers £3 13s to £4 ; store cows £3 to £3 7s 6d, best dairy cows, £7 to £915s ; others £4 15s> to £5 10s,' best' heifers, forward in calf, £6 5s to £8 10s, others'(backward) £4 15s to £510s. "
The High Commissioner's cable, dated August-30, is as follows, quotations, unless otherwise specified, being average market prices on spot :-- Mutton: There has been a better tone in the market this week. Canterbury; 4 3-16 d, North Island 4 '3-16 d for best quality, lightweight 4 3 - 16d. River Plate mutton is in small supply.,
Lamb: There is a better tone in,'the market this week, and prices have slightly advanced for all grades, while there is also better demaud for medium and heavy - weights. , Canterbury, twos 5 9-16 d. heavyweight fours 4|d, other than Canterbury 51-Sd . Beef; iThe market is steady, with a better demand for hindquarters. New Zealand hinds 4 l-Bd, fores.3d. Supplies of American chilled beef are large, Hinds 4fd, fores 2 7-8.
Butter; There has been no alteration in .the market. since last Week, and no change in prices, except that French advanced 2s to 4s per cwt. ' ' Cheese: 'The market is firm, with no change in price for Can-adian,-but New' Zealand has advanced- Is/per cwt/ 'Some offers •have been made for "finest'cheese for delivery in equal quantities, from December, 1913, to June, 19.14, inclusive, atoss landed.
Hemp : The Manila market is .depressed, as second-hand speculators' are selling. Spot hemp is fairly steady at £31 to £32, October to December, £30; January to March, £3010s. The market for New Zealand hemp is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker. N.Z. -good-.fair grade £30 (nominal), fair £26 10s, August to October, good fair, £30 15s, fair £28 15s. '■
