The Te Puke Times TUESDAY, JUNE 3. ROTORUA NATIVE LAND COURT.
Europeans having business to transact at the Native Land Court at Rotorua who have experiericed the vexatious and interminable delays in having such business dealt with will heartily approve of the attitude taken up by the local branch of the Farmers' Union in this matter. ■ At the meeting on Saturday the opinion was plainly expressed that Native Land matters were in a worse state than ever and that the congested state of the work at the Native' Land Court was such, as demanded immediate attention. . It was further resolved that the Native Minister be ■written'to.and urged to malm provision for a sitting of the Court at Te Puke. If the request'is complied with it will mean d very great saving of time and expense not only to all local pakeha residents, but to the Maoris themselves. Te Puke, as it was pointed' out, is the most central, and therefore 'the most convenient place for a sitting of the Court in this part of the Bay of Plenty, and'we'fail to see that any serious objection can be raised to the proposal. l Lack of accommodation for air influx of natives might perhaps militate against the suggestion, but this is a difficulty that could easily be overcome. If the Hon. Mr Herries is sincere in his desire to make such arrangements as will facilitate the task of dealing with blocks of native land, he will give the request of the Te Puke branch of the Farmers' Union very careful consideration.
