A MINER KILLED
*■ FATALITY AT HIK.URANGI Whangakbi, this clay. John Jenkins, a minor, aged 56, a widower, was so severely hurt by a fall of earth in the Northern Coal-Company's mine at Hikurangi on Saturday night that he died an hour after. John Dobson, who was working with him, escaped.
An inquest was begun to-day. and adjourned till Saturday to admit of the mining inspector being present. Jenkins is supposed to have a daughter, BirtDnlce, residing in Fitz Street. Palmersto« North, and also a daughter (Mrs F. McPhee), residing in Wakefield Street, Auckland. The miners stopped work today as a mark of sympathy with the deceased.
