INCENDIARISM UNREWARDED
Mr Superintendent Hughes has been making himself a great deal too officious of late, and has raised quite a storm of popular indignation in certain quarters. I should not be surprised if it resulted in a petition to the City Council for his ignominious removal. The heinous conduct of the Superintendent consists in this — "Whenever a fire occurs he is down on it like a flash of greased lightning, and has it out before the
fellow who set it on fire has hardly had time to bolt out of the way. This sort of conduct is highly improper, and cannot be too severely condemned. It robs many industrious people, skilled in the art, of a hard-earned income from the Insurance Companies. It further tends to deprive the insurance agents and many other persons of exhilarating excitement and cheap amusement.
