THE PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB RACES.
— The Pakuranga Hunt. Club Races, to take place to-morrow, should give some good sp'orfc ■ as most of the horses and riders will be well known to the public. At present there seems a bit of doubt as to which horses are going for - certain races. One owner being asked in ni^ hearing, " Which are you going for ?" replied," " All I can win." Probably most of the horses \ will be pulled out more than twice. The programme starts with the Open Hurdles, 2 miles, over 8 flights, aged., horses 12st lib, maidens allowed 141bs. THe field will comprise Greyhound (12sfc lib), HarK- , away (12st lib) ; Harlequin and Fly, I believe, are maidens ; if so, will carry list lib. I fancy ' Harlequin or Harkaway for this, as Grey-, hound will probably get the 71b owners' allowance . in the Members' Hurdle .Race, and will be ke|jb* ft for it. For the Hunt Ci/ctb Steeplechase, 3J- miles, Teicotrin, Kino- Don, and Sic Garnet seem the three best out of the following : — Mr A. Buckland's b g General, aged ; Mr H. Lushington's gr g Lone Hand, aged ; Mr H. Lushingtoi^gr g Tearaway, aged ; Mr W. Percival's eh g St. Swithin,"aged ; Major Shepherd's br g Daybreak, aged ; Mr J. Lennard's eh g Chandler, aged ; Mr T. Halstead's br g Tricotrin, aged ; Mr T. Stephens' br g King Don, aged ; Mr H. W. Henderson's b g Sir Garnet (late Sir Garnet Wolsely), aged ; Mr H. Dunnett's b g Comus, aged . For the Pont Hurdle Race the following a,re entered : — Mr W. Stephens' Emblem, aged ; Mr F. Burns' eh p Rose, aged ; Mr J. Thorpe's b g Bob Sawyer, aged ; Mr A. Dawson's eh g Mario, 4< years. Emblem: should win this race, unless Mr Thorpe's pony turn out a " top Sawyer.?* v The Members' Hurdle Rack. — Lone Hand, could win if ho would, but he has left his backers so often in a hole that he has grown quite an unsafe investment. Greyhound should go well in this race. The following are the entries* : — 11. Lushington's gr g Lone Hand, aged ; J. Lcnuai'd's eh g Chandler, aged; T. Halstead's br g Tricotrin, aged ; 11. W. Henderson'? b g Sir Garnet (late Sir Garnet Wolsolcy), aged; D. Tonics' gr g Greyhound, aged ; A. Wafcerhouse's . b g Harlequin, aged. In the Stbei'les 8 miles Handicap, Trtcotrin St. SwiTinx. and CiiKrs'niAS should show uj) in this (in move ways than one) open race The following arc ' the entries : — Lushing ton's gr g Lone Hand, aged, 12*t lib : PercivdTs eh g St. Swithin, aged. lLst 71b ; Lennard's eh gk^ Chandler, aged, list; Halstoad's h g. Trieotrin, f aged, list 101 b; Stephen's br g King Don, aged/ ? 12st 71b; Williamson's' b g The Don, aged^^
In the Polo Pony Race some fun should accrue, as I believe owners will be up. I fancy Larrv from old performances, but I saw a goodlooking bay the other day, who I have a notion ■was 'Ensign. The following are the entries :— Lushington's bl p Salt, Donnelly's b p Catch Her if You Can, Percival's gr f Dear Little Buttercup, Shepherd's Ensign, Wallis' b g , Webster's eh m Fairy, Burtt's eh p Larry, and Williamson's b g Chutney. The day's sport winds tip with a SeizingSteeplechase, which is supposed to enable owners of jumping horses to get rid of their hunters for the summer months. King Don or Hawthorn should win this Welter weight for age selling raco, with- selling allowances.^ I should advise backers (o wait till they get into the paddock, and see which races owners elect to send their hoi'ses for. The following are the entries :— HalsteacVs b g Tricotrin, £100, aged ; Percival's eh g St. S within, £50, aged ; Stephens' b g King Don, £50, aged ; Harper's b h Hawthorn, £50, 6 years; Adams' eh g Christinas, £50, 6 years j Lennard's br g Fly, £40, 6 years.
