The pig and the peacock they had a great strife, They were never in office in all their life — But each was ambitious to please his wife, And wanted to get a x'ortfolio. The pier got up on a certain night, And the Government knew that his vote was right; " Oh, ho !" said he, " here's a prospect bright, For me to get a portfolio." But the cockatoo was an artful bird : He said to the pig, " Your claim's absurd —
I've managed divisions when they occurred, And I mean to have that portfolio." But the peacock strutted and spread his tail : Says be, " That's very much like a whale— You may rest assured that you both, will fail To get that vacant portfolio." The vote-catcher baited bis artful trap,. And swore he would catch all three at n slap — For lie knew at the bait they'd readily snap, And want the vacant portfolio.
