SIR W. FOX IN PRAISE OF BEER.
Sir W. Fox had a presentation made to him by the G-ood Templars, of' Taranaki; .and, the* gift took the shape, of , a silver-; inkstand?— a costly one, there being no less -.than 84 V ounces, of sterling silver , in it, and. it wasX enclosed in a .handsome Morocco case. Ttasr' presentation appears to have roused Sir, William to fresh action, for he has' Written two or three " letters to the local papers' on Total Abstinence $
and has incurred the hot; displeasure of the irewers and publicans.. He has . announced that he shortly -intends making a- Temperance "stump*" \ ing tour throughout the, Colony, and he promises, to advertise a local brewer's beer wherever he goes. He is evidently suspicious that the locally brewed, beer is not .first-class, for he told his. audience the other evening that it waß imperative to have it analysed, and that if a man was determined to get drunk, it would be some satisfaction to know he got drunk on the right stuff.
