THE AT HOME ON BOARD THE NELSON.

The At Home given by Commodore Erskine and the officers of H.M.S. Nelson was the most enjoyable affair of the kind we ever had ! here. The huge vessel was made as comfortable as hands could make it for dancing purposes, and the manner in which luxuriant little lounges were arranged in all kinds of convenient corners was the subject of general admiration. The officers deserve the very best thanks of the community for the strenuous efforts they evidently made to return the hospitality shown to them during their visit to this port. The North Shore ferryboats were engaged all the afternoon from two o'clock conveying people on board. The arrangements were so perfect that notwithstanding the large number taking advantage of the invitations extended to them, there "was nothing in the shape of unpleasant crowding experienced at any time. The officers were most attentive in showing their visitors round the ship/ and altogether the entertainment provided ■was of the most pleasant and gratifying nature. Shortly after two o'clock the band struck tip the first waltz, and from that time till about halfpast five dancing was continued. The programme consisted of eight waltzes, one polka, lancera, one mazurka, one galop, and an extra waltz. The music was played by one of the ship's bands in faultless style, and the deck, although a little heavy at first, owing to the difficulty of drying it through the inclement weather, was in very fair order indeed.
