A NORTH SHORE IDYLL.
The .Captain was a Welshman, The Captain had a temper ; The Captain on his noble steed Most gloriously did scamper, And by the way met William Ka'e, Whose motto's Eadcm semper ! William Kae was savage, William Eae was surly ; He claimed the centre of the road In spite of hurly-burly : He would not budge for Lord or Judge, Or Captain fierce and knurly ! 'Twas shown in Court the Captain Had sworn like any trooper, And a Eay of light upon the case Was thrown by Theo. Cooper. With twelve feet wide on either side There could be no obstruction ; The Welshmau meek must eat the leek — 'Twas he who caused the ruction. The Baptist young men have recently been studying the population question and the employment of women, with the intensity and thoroughness of which only they are capable. The result is worthy of their profound and gigantic intellects, and must be exceedingly gratifying to Mr Bradlaugh, . Mrs Besant, and all ether Malthusians. They believe that population requires checking, ■ and they also believe that women should be encouraged to adopt masculine employments. They, therefore, propose that all house-building should be done by women, in the sure and certain hope that a very large number of them would fall and break their necks. This is the doctrine taught by a pious, gentle Baptist youth the other night. Ye gods 1 what next ?
