Four First Prize Medals, Philadelphia International Exhibition, 1876, Higher awards than any other of Watches ever received. Buyers will observe the Trade Mark— ■ " Waltham, Mass." — plainly engraved upon the move--ment of all Genuine Waltham Watches. Trade Mark, Waltham, Mass., registered throughout the New Zealand and. Proceedings will be taken against vendors selling, or offering for sale, Watche3 • bearing colourable imitations, or infringing our rights. —American Watch Company, Waltham, Mass. Take up any of the popular newspapers of the day and you will invariably iind a recipe to grow rich, by undertaking some light work in your own home, full particulars of which will be supplied on receipt of half-a-crown and a stamped envelope. Nearly all these advertisements are mere swindles, as, for instance, in answer to one of the startling notices— "How to earn ten shillings a day "—the noodle who makes the inquiry is directed to buy one hundredweight of potatoes, wash and bake them, and then take a can and sell them at two for a penny, giving a return of about ten shillings on your outlay— that is provided you care about- selling them. Now we were not taken in the' other day when we saw an advertisement — " How to grow rich and preserve your understanding— apply Lapstone, enclosing, one shilling in stamps." Out of curiosity only (having of course no desire to grow rich), we sent the required amount of stamps to Mr Lapstone, and in due course received the following reply : — " He who hath health is . rich beyond conception : and to keep that health, aiKJs preserve your understanding, have your boots made by., Messrs Garrett Bros., the renowned boot and- shoe manufacturers of Wakefleld-street." We acknowledged , having received a good shilling's worth. .. ->- ■ '-{>. y, -.7 7 ■/'■"■' 'X "V :^ '777r7i;ilßli
