ROBBERY OF A TILL.
A grocer who has been very much troubled of late with the thought that he harbonred within his establishment a thief, kept watch and ward over hi 3 till through the whole of last Thursday night, determined at all hazards to fathom the mystery. Being in the habit of leaving a small quantity of money in the drawer overnight, securely fastened under lock and key, he could in no wise account for the disappearance of the paper money, this kind being invariably abstracted in preference to gold and silver, which seemed to possess -no cliarm for the robbers. The first night of his assuming the role of an amateur detective he lay shivering in a comer — himself unseen, very nervous, and rather illtempered. He cannot say whether he took forty winks or not, but distinctly remembers having deposited a marked five-pound note within the till, which he seem*ely locked, placing the key in his pocket. He thought the changing of the fiver would more readily attract notice and lead to subsequent detection than would be the case with an ordinary one-pound note. In the morning he found the key safe in his trousers' pocket, the till-drawer fastened, but the money gone ! At present the matter remains a mystery, and the gentleman, being of a naturally good-natured temperament, informed us of the circumstances rather than report the matter to the police. He hopes the guilty party will see this paragraph, take the hint, and refrain from further pilfering.
