Messrs Mackay and Colville are going in for lawn tennis at the Heads. Sam R., of Ruakaka, has gone to take lessons from Jem Mace. " Who is the belle of the ball ?" accenting the final c, at a ball the other day. "Weally," replied her partner, " I can hardly judge among so many Falstaffian stomachs." There was a rununga at Mangakalria the other day. A Maori woman was on trial for accusing another of wearing a dirty petticoat. The Maori Justice Shallow gave judgment thusly : — This is very bad. My mind is dark. Maria said you had » dirty petticoat. That was a lie. You had no petticoat at all. Maria must pay three cows, two for the Court, and one for complainant." The Maoris all exclaimed, " Kapai. All the same as the pakelia judges."
