WANGAREI.
Mrs Ck C. T. gave an evening party last week, to which, several Auckland gentlemen were invited. Among the number were Messrs P. M. and little A.S. , Unfortunately, the weather was very wet, and flooded the foot bridges at Pentland House. Our Willie 8., in crossing the creek, slipped in and got a fine wetting. He kindly lighted a match to shew M. where to step, but M. did not step in the right place, and consequently got in the middle •of the creek. Little A. S. thought it best to tiick np his trousers, but, with all his care, he also got very wet. Mr W. W., a local gentleman, took ,tlie precaution to take his trousers off to wade through, but in doing so, lost one of his faoots, which was quickly taken off to sea by the freshet. Two ladies, on their way in a carriage, 'driven by E. 0., lost their load, and finally •brought up in a water-hole. E. 0., not caring to -wet his feet or dirty his boots, the ladies were compelled to get out and assist the horse in .getting the carriage on the road again. However, after the above adventures Pentland House was ■reached and a very enjoyable evening spent.
