MANIHI,-TARANAKI
The Irish schoolmaster of Paribaka was about to take a trip to Auckland, but as there is no assisted or free immigration he will have to tramp Ins way through the King Country.
Jack McD., coming off pass from Auckland, had to get an extra week's leave for the purpose of letting liis gas off, otherwise he would have burst. He is stuffing his fellow comrades with most incredible yarns of his love adventures, remarking that he had great trouble in getting away from some of the Auckland ladies.
Dear Charley, the lady-killer of Manihi camp met with several disappointments lately. He received a letter the other day from a lady asking him to meet her somewhere between here and Okato. He turned out a tip top swell to meet his inamorata, tramping 14 miles under a broiling sun. Arrived at his destination, he waited patiently for her arrival xmtil night fell, but his lady love did not appear. On returning, he lost his way in the bush, was chased by a wild boar, and had to spend the remainder of the night in a most painful position up a cabbage tree.
