— Dan Lynch kicked a good goal from T. Henderson's touch down last Saturday. — The Parnell second fifteen plays against tlie Newton second fifteen next Saturday. — The Dargaville people are preparing a cricket ground, and erecting a pavilion, upon it. — The second fifteen of the Ponsonby Football Club will play a match against the Otahuhu men to-morrow (Saturday) afternoon. — Parnell second fifteen defeated Newmarket in a football match last Saturday by four points to nothing. — The return football match between Tauranga and Katikati will be played at the latter place on Saturday, 13tb inst. Both teams are in active training. — The smart play of Braund was particularly noticeable in the match between the united teams last Saturday. His back-play is undoubtedly good. — The Waikato footballists are actively preparing for the match npainst Auckland, whicbT takes place at Hamilton on Saturday, August 20th. — North Shore and Auckland defeated Grafton and Ponsonby lust Saturday by a goal and two touchdowns to nothing. — Albert White intends to send to England for a new sculling boat. He says Hearn's boat was better suited to smooth water thau the one which he rowed in. — Whiteside played exceedingly well for Ponsonby and Grafton last Saturday. Several remarkably good runs were effected by him, and he assisted materially several times to stop the scoring. — Had last Saturday's match between the united teams been played on the Metropolitan ground, the heavy weights of North Shore and Auckland wonld have had their work cut out for them. — McLean "was missed from the Ponsonby ranks last Saturday. He would have been of immense value to the losing side. Arneil and Davy were also absent. — Now that the cricket ground is to be used for football, the sooner the association rules are played the better will the game he liked and participated in by players. — Recently in Edinburgh there was a football match between teams of ladies representing England and Scotland. The ladies wore tights and knickerbockers, and many had the appearance of ballet dancers. Scotland won. — The Telegraph Football Club have challenged a combined team of Postal and Customs. The easy walk over for the Telegraph last year have made them a little bit cocky. It is to be hoped that Mitford and Company will turn the tables this year. — The . football team selected to represent Auckland in the match against Waikato on the 20th will play against all comers in the Domain ground to-morrow (Saturday. Arrangements should be made to commence the match at a reasonable hour. — Arrangements are being made in Northern Wairoa for a champion sculling match to take place on the occasion of the ensuing regatta. It is proposed to make the race a sweepstakes one of £50 each, and the stakes of several Dargaville oarsmen will be paid by settlers in the district. It is expected that amongst others Hearn, Albert White, and George White will compete. — It is improbable that a challenge to Hearn to row for the championship of New Zealand, will be issued by George White, a younger brother of the man who was defeated by Hearn in July. George White is taller and considerably stronger than his brother, and it is said that' he is also faster. He would have competed in the recent championship match had it not been thought that Albert White would have won.
