I have also inspected those parts of the town mostly troubled with rats 1, and: abmut 60 places of taiiteiness have befen supplied with poison. I am quite convinced that the work carried out has teen the means 1 of dertroying a groat number. I would point out that 'special attention should be given to the foreshore aiea, and if'the Railway Department would. lay poison thetve it Would materially assist the Cbunfiil in its efforts to protect the Thames against the chief earner of plague. The practice of throwing 1 doadl rats on the footpaths and streets of the Borough 'being frequently in evidence. I rfpork'd the matter to the town clerk, who at once inserted a notice in tlia local newspaper to the effect that any person found' responsible for the act, would be immediately prosJecuted. "I would respeetfclly .suggest that the Worongh carpenter be appointed as an assistant inspector of nuisandes Thia womkl niot entail any extra expense, and wtould g|ive him piowfev to act immediately on any nuisance that he might detect without the delay of first of all reporting to me. "Since Avriting my report 'several e/omplairtts have been modfe to me that th'a 'Common iSiensJe' poison, a& refctommendeidl by the Health Department, Is killing the rat but not burning the earciass as was anticipated, and thereby creating a nuisancle. After 1 leoraminingl the dead' rats pointed out to me T considered it judicious to cease laying 1 any more poison until I hadl placed the matter tbfore the Health' Department." The report was adopted. It was decided to appoint the borough carpenter as assistant inspector of nuisances.
