Our Schools.

The Convent Schools had their usual break up today, when there was a large attendance of parents and friends of the pupils. An attractive programme of music, recitations, and addresses was presented, and taken part in by the following pupils: Misses Law, Neal, McDonald, Callan, Asbby, Delahmnty, Bobinson, Koeffoed, Twohill, and Tooher. The exhibition was most creditable, and the Sisters of Mercy deserve every praise for the proficiency reached by their pupils. In their programme were included many very choice and well executed numbers of vocal and instrumental music, and the execution of these elicited well deserved encomiums regarding the teaching of the schools. Examinations in arithmetic, book-keeping, mathematics, physical geography, English, Irish, and French history, and a drama " The reverse of the medal," was, with the distribution of prizes and the singing of the anthem " God defend New Zealand," set down as a conclusion to a pleasant afternoon's entertainment.

The following young ladies received prizes for the items set against their Dames:—Miss Neal, Conduct, Mmsic, Arithmetic, Study and Amiability; Miss Law, Mapping, Music, and Needlework ; E. Law, Study, Mapping, Drawing, and Music; Miss Ashby, Writing, Mapping, Music, and Needlework ; Miss McDonald, Conduct; Study, and Eecitation; Miss Callan, Conduct, Study, and Recitation ; Miss O'Sullivan, Study, Mapping, and Arithmetic ; Miss Carpenter, Conduct and Arithmetic; Miss J. Koefoed, conduct, study, and recitation; Miss E. Solen, conduct, catechism, study, and needlework; Miss Bobinson, conduct, study writing, and recitation ; Miss M. Tooher, conduct, study, and regular attendance ; Miss E. Tooher, conduct, study, and needlework ; Miss Foy, Conduct, Grammar, aud regular Attendance; Miss C. B. Connolly, Conduct and General Improrement ; Miss A. Wilson, Writing, Conduct, and Regular Attendance ; Miss M. Connolly, General Improvement, and Needlework; Miss Law son Irish History; Miss McDonald, Music and General Im* provement; Miss Twohill, Irish History ; Miss Punch, Catechism, Miss Varney, General Improvement and Needlework; Miss Gallagher, Catechism and Beading ; Miss M. J. Wilson, General Improvement ; Miss Garvey, Beading and Spelling ; Miss Nolan, Oeneral Improvement; Miss E. Neal, General Improvement; Miss Nellie McDonald, Beading; Miss A. Shaw, Spelling. A very choice exhibition of the work of various pupils was shown*; the following are most worthy of mention:—Miss Law, Drawing, Bichard Coeur de Lion; Miss Neal, handsome drawing-room chair; Miss Ashby, cushion; Miss Delahunty, pair of slippers; Miss Connolly, cushion; Misß O'Sullivan, cosy ; Miss McDonald, nicely embroidered table cover ; and Miss Maggie McDonald, pair of slippers. [The breaking up of the Infant School also took place this afternoon, when a large number of prizes were presented, but the names of the winners are omitted owing to want of space.]
