AUCKLAND.
This day. • Sir W. Fox made an excellent speech at the temperance meeting in the Baptist Tabernacle last uigbt. It was suggested that he should enter politics in the interest of the temperance movement, and in reply he said he was willing to devote the remainder of his life to getting a thorough local option or prohibition law passed. G. A. Sala's lecture was not a great success; there was too much padding in it, and in parts the egotism of the lecturer was too apparent.
