OUR MINES.
CAMBRIA.
The Bplendid retnrn banked yesterday as the result of the past fortnight's Optra*. tions, and the handsome dividend of 9f which has been deolared, had the effect of> again attracting a large number of visitors to the mine to-day for the purpose of inspecting the various workings, bat More especially those in progress on the cross* reef at No. 3 level. The second stope is being carried along here to the winze, and in breaking down the reef this morning the satisfactory haul of 3001bs of specimens was bagged. The reef maintains its usual promising appearance, the quartz being of an excellent character, and carrying a large amount of strata* mata and other favorable minerals. There is a really good show of gold now visible in the back of the stope for some Bor 9ft./in length, and the quartz in the face is also; of an excellent nature. The men are now engaged in carrying the stope along to the winze, from which it is yet fully 20ft distent. Driving is being continued as usual, on the crossreef at this level, and the mass of quartz in the face is of a kindly description, showing occasional colors of gold when broken down. In the western drive at the same level the oouotry is an excellent class of sandstone, but the reef has been heaved, and the men are now employed in driving to pick it up. A leading stope is also in progress from this drive, from which a largto supply of good crushing dirt is coming to hand. There is not much change to report in the winze being sunk below No. 3 level. The reef is somewhat disturbed at present, owing to the influence of a break which appears to be crossing the face, but the quartz in the western corner is of afavOr* able description, being of-a rubbly nature, in which colors of gold are occasionally seen. There is no change to mention in the eastern drive, but in the second stope in progress over this drive the lode shows some improvement, and there is gome nice gold showing in the roof about 15ft from the winze. The quartz carries a quantity of pyritous mineral, and should yield well at the battery. A large supply of good crushing dirt is coming to band from the stopes over the eastern and western intermediate drives, and the reef looks well in both places, showing colors of gold when broken down. Operations are progressing as usual on the No. 1 (or stringer) lode at the intermediate below No. 2 level, and colors of gold are seen in the quartz. The stopes above No. 2 level are yielding a large supply of payable crushing dirt, but the reef presents no change to report.
DAE WIN. The contractors are in a distance of some 26ft with the crosscut into the foot* wall of the lode, but the quartz has not yet been pierced, though what appears to be the footwall is ooming in in the bottom of the drive. The quartz is of a kindly description, and carries some favorable minerals. Stoping operations are proceeding as usual, and colors of gold are occasionally seeu in the qaartz coming to hand. SIL YE a CEO WN (TAEAECT). The contractors have now extended the drive a total distance of 174 ft since com* mencing operations. The country is aa excellent class of sandstone, and it ii expected that the reef will be to hand in eight or ten days. As showing the favor* able class of country being penetrated, it may be mentioned that the contractor! hare driven 52ft during the past fort* night. . ANTIQUAEY (KAEANGAHAKE). The manager reports for the past week as follows :—The low lerel has been, driven. 36ft, and is now within, about 14ft of cutting the leader. As soon as tha latter is met with the drire will be continued along its course towards the old Prospectors' run of gold, which, at this point, will give some 130 ft of backs. Daring the week's prospecting a large I reef was opened out about 50ft to the | east of the Prospectors's reef. We drove on it about six feet, carrying a body of stone from four to five feet thick: This lode can be better worked from the level now going in, as it is cut in the face of the. cliff, and the mullock from it falls on the Woodstock low level tramway. I can also trace three other reefs cutting into the company's ground from the northern boundary, which from their position should be valuable lodes. These reefs will have to be prospected from levels owing to the great depth of surface overlying them. The stone from the three looks promising for both silver and gold* and as soon as the forge is finished I intend to test the stone from then; the latter will be completed during next week." GOLD EETUENS. Kuban vi Hill.—A crushing for Tras= cott and party, tributers, has produced lOozs 17dwts gold.
