Tuesday, 13th October. Two accidents have occurred, neither of which are very serious. The first happened to a man named Peter Brown. He was working at a horse, and was passing round the animal when it kicked him on the knee. Luckily for him he waa dose up to the animal, or else the remit might hare been more serious. He ia at present laid up, but hopes to be at work again iv a few dayß. The second occurred to a man named William McKenna, who was employed in the Martha Extended Co.'b mine. On Wednesday last he was work* ing iq the stopes, when he slipped and fell on a boulder, severely injuring nil ribs. He left for the Thames on Friday for medical treatment.

this company has driven on the reef, it has widened out a good deal. It is now about two feet nine inches wide. Theyhave also commenced to drive south, but as yet have not done much work. The reef here is about two feet wide. The Nil Desperandum Company started operations to-day with two men to prospect for the reef. They hope to have it in about ten days time, when tenders will be called to sink a shaft on the reef to a depth of 70 or 80 feet. The Amaranth and Albion Co., I hear, are expecting to start work this week.
