The Tarring Case.
(Pee Pbess Association.) Wellington, This day. At the Resident Magistrate's Court, Walden was again placed in the dock charged with being concerned in the Hutt tarring case. Mr Buckley apologised to the Court for the part he took in the unseemly conduct which took place at the last hearing. Mr Stafford also apologised. Mr Buckley obtained permission to amend certain evidence given by him at the last hearing, relative to the date when Mr Center called at bis office. Alice Williams Gallaume, barmaid at the Royal Hotel, who had been subpwnwd, was not present, and a warrant was issued for her arrest. W. E. Waters deposed that he knew a man named W. H, McLelland. The first he heard of the assault on Muir was by seeing it in the papers. Before the assault on Muir, witness had not had any confersation with accused about it, but had since it happened j could not say whether or not he bad on the 20th of August spoken to accused and McLelland together, and also that he bad seen Mr Buckley. Witness took an interest in the trial because some of his friendi bad been dragged into it. Win. Henry McLelland deposed that he had known accused since he was a lad, but had not had any conversation with him on the subject before the Court until this morning. Witness was not at the Hutt on the night of the 19th August, and knew nothing of the tarring case, except what he heard at street corners. At 11.30 o'clock the ease was adjourned uotil 2 p.m. for ihe production of the girl Gallaume.
