Last night. A Chinamen named Lee Chong was arrested at Devonport to-day upon a charge of assaulting with intent to commit rape upon a married woman named Hannah Meyer, wife of a market gardener and small farmer, near Lake Takapuna, on Sunday afternoon. The husband saw accused throw his wife down and attempt the crime. The accused offerred £3 to square the matter, but an arrest was the outcome.

This day. Arrived : s.s. Wairarapa from southern ports and Melbourne. Sailed last night: Hineraoa for Wellington. Among the passengers are the following southern members:—G. F. Richardson, Hirst, Samuel, Levestam and J. C. Brown.
