OUR MINES.

CAMBBIA.

The reef in the wiize being sunk from 2So. 3 level continues to look well, and carries the usual favorable minerals. There* is a little gold showing in the western corner, accompanied by an abundance of excellent minerals. The reef in the eastern drive does not present any change to report • colors of gold are seen in a nice rein of quartz some three inches in thickness. In the western drive a break was met with about 2ft. back from the face, which disturbed the reef, but kindly quartz is again making its appear, ance in'the face. Driving on the mass of quartz from the cavern at No. 3 level has been discontinued,.-the men being now engaged.. in timbering up.. A . leading stope is in .progress.on the crossreef above this level, and the reef was broken down on the eastern side of the break for the first time this morning, with, the result that the excellent, haul of 2501bs of rich specimens was" bagged/ At the time of my visi^Hhere was* a grand show of gold for some 5 or 6ft. in length to be seen here, accompanied by a large amount of .stratamata and other, excelled t minerals." It will ba remembered that the previous hauls of stone from the crossreef were obtained on the western side of the break, whereas this morning's haul came to hand from the eastern side. It is certainly very satisfactory to note the existence of rich gold on both sides of the break, which considerably enhances the value of the mine. The stope on this reef has now been carried along about 42ft from the winze, and there ia another good show of gold some 20ft back from the face, with an abundance of * splendid minerals. The leading stope westward is along 20ft from the winze, and good crushing dirt is coming to haud from here. At the intermediate level, driving eastward has been discontinued, and the only work in progress here at present is the. second stope over the western intermediate drive, which has almost been carried home to the Darwin boundary. The quartz is of a favorable description, and shows colors of gold when broken down. Operations on No. 1 reef at the intermediate below No. 2 level are proceeding as usual. Colors of gold are, seen when breakingdown thtf reef in the drive, and the slopes are producing good crushing dirt. Above No. 2 level the No. 11 stope is being carried along; the reef is about 4ft in thickness here, and shows colors of gold. The crushing is shaping for the usual return.

DARWIN. The reef in the drire at No. 3 level was broken down this morning, when a few colors of gold were seen in the quartz Ibe reef looks as promising as ever, and carries silica and other excellent minerals, while the country is ill that can be desired. The manager purposes putting the cross*

cut into the footwall of the reef at a point some 70;t. back from the face, and tenders will be received for the work until noon to-niorrow. Two stopes—Nos. 4 and 5— are in progress above this level, and colors of gold are seen in the quartz when break* ing dowD. SAXON. Driving and stoping ia being continued on the No. 1 reef at No. 3 level, which looks well, and is in good country. The quartz carries good mineral, and a little gold is seen when breaking it do*n. The te^r..offJ,he a^nje^j^ vJ Oe?eJ + hjß, greatly" improved in size, and carries splendid minerals and other indications for gold. OBIENTAL (OTUNU£). The drive on the reef at the low level is making fair progress; the country has been rather tight lately, but a better class of sandstone has now made its appearance in the face. The reef is still a nice body of stone, and shows colors of gold when broken down; The aaahagef has com menced crashing at the Eureka Co.'s battery, and the quartz is shaping for a good return. The, tributers (Mills and party) have finished their crushing of 48 tons of quartz from the Bonanza section of the mine for the excellent return of 1370z3 retorted gold. I ? I EEIIiE^.PAI£
