The Tarring Affair.

The tarring case was brought before the Court again to-day. The Hon. Mr Buckley was examined, and stated that he knew the accused, but knew nothing of the assault until the morning after it occurred. Two other witnesses deposed to seeing the accused with a handcuff before the assault. Edward Mclntosh, of the Hutt, deposed to seeing a cab gtandjnjj at the (Joui't-house, but did npt know the"driver, lie had peen offered a bribe of £20 by Mr Trams' managing clerk if he would give evidence to convict the driver. [Mr Buckley here made sotto vece remarks about this, when Mr Travers claimed the protection of the Court from this " person," who he then termed a " vagabond ": whereupon j Str Buckley referred to him as "fellah," and challenged him to repeat his former words outside the Court.] Mr Gillon, editor of the Post, was called, and ob« jected to give evidence, as he had no knowledge except what he bad learned in Jijs professional capacity. sworn, he declined to say whether be had had any conversation with accused ; re the assault be certainly had none, but he declined to 'give any evidence as to any conversation with accused or anyone else, as it would be betraying bis own personal honor if he gave evidence as to what was told him in confidence.
