TOTAEA RIDING.
A largely attended meeting was held at Kirikiri, at the Hauraki Hotel, Mr B. Comer being in the Chair.—Mr Townsend, who had called the meeting, explained I why he had done so, and the following resolution, moved by him, was carried unanimously :— " This meeting is of opinion that the Government should be urged to fully complete the Thames Railway to Hikutaia, and instruct their engineers to proceed with the survey of the remaining portion of the line to Te Aroha, and when the plans and specifications are prepared, to call for tenders for the full and perfect completion of the entire railway and its various stations." —A resolution proposed by Mr G. Fisher was also unanimously adopted; it was :—"That to give effect to the resolution now passed, the Chairman be instructed to forward a copy to the members of this and the neighboring districts, requesting them to urge upon the Ministers the great import ance of the line to the present and future welfare of the district, and the necessity for placing a sufficient sum upon the estimates for the completion of the line." —The Chairman received a vote of thanks, and the meeting adjourned.
At Puriri there was a well attended meeting and Mr Townsend was called to the chair. The following resolution proposed by Mr Hurra was carried unanimously: — " This meeting is of opinion that iho construction of the Thameg-T« Aroha railway to Hikutaia will
not answer the requirements of this rapidly improving and important district, and it is therefore --imperative, not-only that the contract should be fully completed, but should be at once proceeded with for the remainder of the line to le Aroha, and tenders invited for their completion."— Mr Nicholson proposed, Mr Cribb seconded, and it was also carried—" That the Chairman forward a copy of the foregoing resolution to the members for the Thames, Coromandel, Waikato, and Tauran i?a districts, urging them to induoe the Government to. place a sum upon the Estimates sufficient for the full and per* feet completion of this important and necessary railway."—Tbe usual compliment was paid to the Chairman, and the meeting rose. •
