London, August 18. A Russian Spy Arrested in

India.
A man assuming the garb of a priest, and giving the name of Father Kanovics, has been arrested in India as a Bussian spy. He is thought by the authorities to be indentical with the ex-Communist Oliver Pain, who is believed to have recently kept the Mahdi informed of the movements and strength of the British troops in Egypt.

The commerical depression which has prevailed for some past shews a sign of diminution, and trade is improving generally in the United States.
London, August 18.
Earl Carnarvon, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, accompained by the Couutess, is making a tour of the west of Ireland. The Vice-Regal party have met with a hearty reception so far.
London, August 17.
The Australian mails per Orient Co.'s Liguria, dated July 10th, were delivered here to-day, via Naples.
The English harvest operations are progressing rapidly, and the crop is expected to be an average one.
