The following are the weights declared for New Zealand horses entered for the Great Metropolitan Stakes :—-Welcome Jack (top weight), 9«t 31 bs; Vanguard Bst lOlbs; Oudeis, Bst 4!bs ; Liverpool, 7st 4lbs; Thunderbolt, 6stl2ibs.
For the Hawkesbury Grand Handicap Welcome Jack was alloted highest weight, 9st 51bs.

A Melbourne Age special, dated London, 17th June, states that the selection of the Marquis of Salisbury, as Minister of Foreign Affairs, and of Lord Eandolph Churchill as Secretary for India is a direct menace to Russia.
A message, dated June 21, states that the Ameer's troops are menacing the Russian outposts, while one dated Jane 220 d states the Russians at Askabad, on the Persian frontier, have imprisoned a British messenger.
