This day.

lit spec tor Pardy returned to town about 11 o'clock this morning. He says that be and Constable Byan had a very narrow escape, and if it had not been for a projecting rock and an overhanging tree, would have been drowned. He is much bruised and shaken. Constable Eyan has recovered, and is able to resume his duty at Parihaka. The river runs along by Pungarehu, and is a very treacherous stream, and baa been much swollen by the rains.
