The stock market is improving as apprehensions of war between England and Eussia are subsiding. Consols have advanced by I|, and are now quoted at 97. The market rates of discount have declined to 2\, and are now quoted at 1 per cent, below the Bank rate. New Zealand securities generally have ad» vahced by 1\ to 2 per cent., to-day's quotations being :—5 per cent. 10«40 loan, 100| 5 4i per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 100|; .4 per cent, inscribed stock,96|. Colonial breadstuff's :/ Adelaide wheat, rexiajore* declined by .2s to 38s per 496tbs#^Adgi v laide flour remains at 275. Consols have further advanced by an eighth, and are now at 97^. New Zealand securities are at last quotations. No changes reported in. colonial produce.
The March-April series of wool sales closes to-day. The total quantity sold was 180,000 bales; 42,000 were held over for next auctions.
Prices generally closed at a half penny to a penny lower, except for cross-bredsi which have advanced by a half-penny to a penny as compared with the closing rates for January and February auctions. The third series of the sales open on June tbe 4th.

London, April 16. Tbe Eev. Wna. Webber, the newly^ appointed Bishop of Brisbane, will be consecrated at St. Paul's on May 26th.
At a meeting of the shareholders of the Bank of South Australia, a motion was passed approving of tbe proposal to transfer fifty thousand pounds from the reserve fund to meet all possible loss;
A large meeting is to be held in London to take into consideration the condition of the British navy.
