The Reception of the Shootists in Auckland.
[By Telegraph.]
[raOM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Auckland, Thia day. The Representatives have just landed, and received a most enthusiastic reception. The vessels in the harbor were covered with bunting, and in Queen street there was a great display of flags. On the wharf were thousands of men, also a very large sprinkling of the fair sex. The volunteers mustered in force, especially the Artillery, who provided a gun carriage decorated with flags, drawn by a splendid team of grey horßes. Mr W. E. Waddell, Mayor, welcomed the men on behalf of the citizens of Auckland, and your Mayor (Col. Fraser) offered, on behalf of the Thames people, his congratulations, remarking that the Thames claimed both men as theirs. With the Mayoral party were—W. J. Hurst, M.H.8., P. A. Phillip, Councillor Thompson, Messrs McOullough, Wick ham, Mennie, Thompson, Farrell, and other Thames men, Major Shepherd, Captains Fenton, Payne, Mahon, Leßoy, and others. The band played martial airs, and in the procession were the two Mayors, Town Clerk, and Mr Hurst, who walked immediately in front of the gun carriage with the champions. The jaunty cock of his hat, and the important strike of the chosen of Waitemata, attracted almost as much attention as the occupants of the gun carriage. The streets were crowded, every window in Queen street being occupied, and during the march cheers were frequent. The demonstration is certainly the most enthusiastic eter accorded Volunteers in Auckland. The banquet comes off tonight.
