Mblboubne, Yesterday.

The eveniflg papers contradict the statement made by the Ago to-day, that pre* caution was deemed necessary for the protection of the public buildings of this city. They declare that the guards at the Government House and other places have merely been relieved to admit of the despatch of the artillerymen to Queenscliffe.

The Merchant Shipping and Underwriters' Association are in receipt of a telegram from- London, dated Saturday, stating that no war premiums are yet being charged for Australia.

A verdict for the defendants has been given in the libel action brought by Mr McElhone, M.P., against the proprietor of the Evening News newspaper.
