Threatened Outrages Denied.
Mblboubne, Yesterday.
The eveniflg papers contradict the statement made by the Ago to-day, that pre* caution was deemed necessary for the protection of the public buildings of this city. They declare that the guards at the Government House and other places have merely been relieved to admit of the despatch of the artillerymen to Queenscliffe.
The Merchant Shipping and Underwriters' Association are in receipt of a telegram from- London, dated Saturday, stating that no war premiums are yet being charged for Australia.
Stdney, Saturday.
A verdict for the defendants has been given in the libel action brought by Mr McElhone, M.P., against the proprietor of the Evening News newspaper.
Anglo-Australian Cricket.
The cricket match, England v. Australia, was commenced today on the Association ground. The weather was splendid, and there "was a very Jarge attendance of spectators. The. ground is in first rate order, and the wicket excel" lent. The Englishmen went in first, and their innings closed for a total of 269 runs, the highest individual scores being Shrewsbury, b, 40; Barnes, b, 50 ; Sates, c, 64; Maurice Reid, b, 47; Flowers, b, 14; and Peel, not out, 17.
Yesterday,
. The cricket match England v. Australia was continued to-day, and whenthestumps were drawn for tha day the home team had 8 wickets dowu for 305 run^i, as against the Englishtaen's total in the"ir first innings of 269. The highest scores for the Australians were McDounel, c, 20; GiffeD, 32; Bonnor, 128; Jones, not out, 40.
Arrived, yesterday: The s.s. Manapouri, from Auckland.
Parliament meets' to-morrow, and it is expected that the Bill' of Indemnity in connection with the Soudan contingent will; be carried by a large majority, but only after a sharp debate.

Shaw*Sayill and Albion! Co/s steamship Taiaui, from Plymouth on Feb. 1, arrived here on Saturday in route for Port Chalmers.
