Protestant Alliance Grand Council.
The fourth annual session was held yesterday in the Shorfcland Public Hall, the following being the officers present:— Prince of Wales Lodge. No. 20 (Thames), represented by R. T. Douglas, G. B. Taylor, and J. West; Pioneer, No. 25 (Dunedin), W. J. McWatters and A. Sherlock ; Loyal Excelsior, No. 41 (Green Island), W. Smith; Wickliffe, No. 44 (Napier), R. Scott; John Knox, No. 50 (Wellington), J. McDonald and D. W. Pitkethley; Alexandra, No. 53 (Auckland), A. B. Griffiths and J. Donaldson; Star of Onehunga, No. 8 (Onehunga), J. Wilson ; Progress, No. 10 (Dunedin), G. Basham ; Valley True Blues, No. 11 (Dunedin), J. Gibb; Star of Hastings, No. 12 (Hastings, Hawke's Bay), D. Henderson. After the transaction of a considerable amount of business, the reports showing the Society's condition to be a flourishing one, the following were elected officer* for the coming year :^W.G.M., D. ■ W. Pitkethley; D.G. M.., W. J. McWatters; G. Sec, Wm. Smith; G. Treas. R. T. Douglas; GO., R. Scott; Trustees— W. J. McWatters, A. Sherlock, and J. Gibb ; Auditors—McDonald and West.
The newly -elected Grand Master thanked those present for the honor ofpjp re-election, a cordial vote of thanks was passed ta the Secretary (W. Smith), and the Bession terminated. ,
, In the evening a soiree, social, tnd dance was held in the lame Hall, there being a good attendance. Fall justice having been done to the good things provided, the re 3m was cleared for the concert, Bro, Gibb presiding. The Chairman tendered his thanks to the audience for their attendance, and to the member! of the Thames Lodge for the hearty manner in which they had, received the brethern of the Grand Council, after which the Following programme was gone through:-* Ballad, "Good-bye, Sweetheart, Goodbye," Mr Vowles; gong, "Sweethearts," Miss Phillips; duet^ ''Flow on, Thou Shining River," Mrs Jeffrey and Mr 1 Vowles (encored); comic song, "King Tawhiao's tour to London," Mr Wiseman; pianoforte solo,." Death of Nelson," Misi a
Ginn ; song, "Alice, Where art Thou," Mr Griffiths; song, " When you rand I were young, Maggie," Mrs Jeffrey (encored); duet, •• What are the Wild Waves Sajing," Miss Phillips and Mr Yowles; song and recitation, Mr Henderson ; song, "See that my Grave's kept Green," Mr Griffiths; song, "Death of Nelson," Mr Vowles; comic song," Complainings on the Block," Mr Wiseman (encored). At intervals short addresses were given by Bros. Griffiths and Donaldson, representatives from the Alexandra Lodge, Auckland, both, of whom thanked the Thames brethren for the kind manner in which they had received them, promis* ing that should an opportunity occur, the compliment would be cs hear til j returned. Bro. Douglas proposed a hearty vote of thatiks to all who had assisted in contributing towards the evening's entertain* ment, especially Miss' Ginn for her services in accompanying the vocalists, and Messrs Vowles and, Wiseman. The latter gentleman humorously acknowledged the vote, and the motion was carried,by acclamation. The singing?,of tbe National Anthem brought this part of the programme to an end, when the room was cleared far dancing, which was kept up till "the wee sma' hours," to the strain of Martin Bros', string band.
