Death by Drowning near Tairua.

• While a number of cattle wen being ■hipped from Slipper Island to the a.f* GJenelg on tbe 24th instant, a young man named John. Trott, aged about. 17; years, met with an untimely death by drowning. It appears that the" system of shipping cattle cattle adopted is to connect the steamer with the shore by a line, alongside of Which the animals swim to the Teasel. The line was, as usual, drawnaahore and deceased and three.others",were following in a .- boat with a view to prevent any of the cattle becoming entangled in- the rope. While doing this the rope got foul of the boat and capsized it, throw* ing the four occupants into the water. Only one of them could swim, and he struck out for the shore, while two others succeeded in clinging to the bottom of the boat till rescued. , The deceased aank almost immediately and although his body v» as recovered four minutes afterwards, life was found to be extinct. - An inquest was held at Tairua" on the 25th inst. by James Harden Esq. J.P. when a verdict of " Accidental death " wai returned.' " "'•""
