Southern Mining.
The following are the Beef ton battery returns for the week ending the 3rd inst: —Keep-it-Dark Company, 701^ ounces of amalgam from 207 tons of quartz ; Inkerman—2B2 ounces of amalgam from 456 tons of quartz.
For the following week the returns' were: — Eeep»it»Dark Company, 298 ounces of amalgam from ISO tons of quartz; Golden Treasure—l 67 ounces 11 dwts of amalgam from 170 tonß stone.
Mr Fred Evans, manager of the Phsenix mine, Skippers, informs us (Wakatip Mail) that arrangements have been made with Mr Prince, electric engineer, for the erection of an electric apparatus to work 20 heads of stampers at the rate of 70 blows per minute, and to keep the whole in working order "for nine months—the owner of the mine (Mr G. F. Bullen) to provide water power to drive the apparatus. The machinery to start six months from date of signing contract (last week) and the cost to be £2200.
