OUR MINES.
CAMBRIA.
Another good haul of specimens was I bagged last night from the leading stope over the intermediate level, 120lbs of atone of good quality being obtained. There are now 3201 bi on hand, all of it showing gold freely enough to warrant the manager in expecting a good return. The stope has only advanced two or three feet from the side of the winze, the reef being rery large. The mineral vein is showing as strong as ever in the face, and a little gold woe left visible after the specimens were taken out. The water from the stopes is still running down the winze, but the manager is making arrangements to carry it into the Darwin drive, where it would soak through the crevices in the reef. It is therefore probable that the sinking of the wiDze will be resumed before long. In the east drive at the 230 ft. level, a large body of quartz is showing.* Ihe lode is quite 8 or 9ft. wide, and gold-is seen in breaking. The foot wall portion is solid quartz, but on the haDgingwall the reef appears to be more composed of stringers, which, how ever, show the precious metal quite as freely as the more compact portion. The stopes are yielding dirt of remunerative grade.
DARWIN.
The eastern drive is in progress on the hangingwall portion of the lode, which now shows rather better minerals than has been the case for the last few feet. The winze is down about 12ft., and is passing through favorable country. Only the hangingwall 'portion.of the reef, from 18 inches to 2ft. wide, is being broken; and in this occasional colors of gold are seen. There is a considerable quantity of dirt on hand, chiefly from the stopes, and crushing will be commenced as soon as stamps are available.
THAMES GOLDEN CROWN.
The contractors for the erection of the machinery at the Mary Ann section shaft (Dobbs and party) are making good headway, and expect to be finished in a little over a fortnight. The poppet legs and pulleys are in position, aud no time will now be lost in getting the boiler and engine in to their places. . ..
LORD WOLSELEY,
The contractors are progressing with their second section (50ft),and should sodn be finished. The shaft will then be 150 ft deep, but it is not intended to stop sinking yet, and another section will be at once let on the completion of the present one. ■
