lIkRWI. The-revenue mid expenditure returns wtw'tt published yerterday hr the Treasurer. The revenue of the colony for 18S1 amounted to £'21)0,819, being the largest over collected, and more than £100,000 in excess of the revenue lire years ago. The expenditure for 18S>.t was £291,30(3, iuoluding £20,000 for immigration purposes, Tho balance brought forward for 1885 is £75,1(35. The financial position of the colony is considered highly satisfactory. Somo further particulars have been received respecting the murder of Mr Anketoll and Mr Burrup, the manager and accountant of tho branch of the Union Bank at lloebourne. The tracks of two white men have been discovered at the scene of the murder. The footprint of one of them is 12in long, and evidently made by stout boots. The other is short and thick, one boot being inclined to one side. There is no chance of the murderers getting away. . Tasmania. The population of the colony is estimated to be 128,378, being an increase over last year of 4028. It' ia reported that a new reef of a valuable character has been struck at Lefray by a prospecting party. The yield is said to average soz to the ton. The reef has beenf struck at a depth of 18ft. The news has created some excitement, as mining is terribly dull. A nugget, 6in long, from Long Plain*; is bejpg shown at Lamceston.
