The steerage passengers numbered 48.

At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Insurance Company to-day the report showed that after making provision for all ascertained losses to date, carrying £25,000 to the reserve fund (which, with the re-insurance fund, now stands at £225,000), and paying an interim dividend of 3s per share in July last, there remains a balance of profit amounting to £22,089 2s 7d. It was resolved to pay a dividend of 3s per share, which absorbs £15,000, leaving £7,089 2s 7d to be carried forward to next half-year. The naked body of a man, apparently only recently drowned, was picked up by a waterman at Shelly Beach, Ponsonby, to day. It is as yet unrecognised.
