AUCKLAND.
: This day. Mr Mitclielson Retires. It is understood to be Mr Mitchelson's intention to retire from public life, at least for some years; it is said that Major Atkinson has urged Mr Milchelson to reconsider his decision, but without avail. Mr Mitchelson :will probably not resign, however, for some months yet. The Auckland Presbytery have submitted an overture to the General Assembly on the question of Church praise. Too little attention, they say, is paid to this important matter. Vanguard, Oudeia, Escatos, and Liverpool were scratched for the Auckland Cup at 10.40 this morning ; Lady Evelyn has also been scratched.
