OUR MINES.
CAMBEIA. Fifteen head of stamps are still employed at the Golden Crown battery, where the dirt is shaping payably, and after retorting the manager intends to keep the same force continuously employed. Tho eastern drive has been advanced some six or seven feet since last visiting day, and the reef looks well, the country being also most favorable. The hangingwall portion of the reef still carries a strong band of splendid mineral, and the manager states that gold is seen freely in breaking down. >■ The leading stope over this drive is now fairly started, and is producing a large quantity of crushing dirt. The face is almost forward to the point at which the first haul of specimens was got in the drive, and the band of mineral which accompanied the precious metal is just coming in. The other stopes on the hangingwall reef are now nearly home to the Darwin boundary, and are producing good dirt. In the winze the reef is still large, and shows gold when broken. The heavy band of mineral is not noticeable on the footwall, but the hangingwall looks better. The country in the shaft is tight, but the contractors are making satisfactory progress. DARWIN. Crushing was started to-day at the Crown battery with five head of stampers. In the mine the main portion of the reef has not been broken in the west drive since last week, but gold is freely seen in the numerous stringers on the footwall; about Bft of the solid reef is stripped, and it will be broken as soon as there is room to stow it in the hopper. MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. The southern crosscut is in 24ft as the result of seven days' work, and the coun* try in the face is improving and becoming whiter. The north east crosscut has advanced 18ft dcring the week, making a total distance of 46ft from the shaft. MOANATAIEI.
