At Boss the contractor for Donnelly's i Creek Co. has again met with quicksand lin the tunnel. The Humphries Gully Co. works are steadily progressing. The distance to be driven in the long tunnel has been reduced this week by over 40 fret. The driving is now good. The idea that payable gold exists in the Wairarapa continues to be as strong as ever, notwithstanding that one prospector has been accused of imposing on the people of Masterton. The latest intel. ligence (says the Wanganui Chronicle) is that claims have been pegged ©ufc near Eimiki by Mr Wright, from Wellington, who is said to have found alluvial gold in an adjacent creek. Another claim is said to have been pegged out on the reef; let us hope it is not another mare's nest. The following are the Eeefton battery returns for the week ending the Bth inst.:
