Anglo-Australian Cricket.
The cricket match between the English team and Eleven of Victoria commenced to day, but owing to unfavorable weather the attendance of spectators was small, and the play was stopped on account of the rain at intervals during the day. Not much interest is being; taken in the match. The visitors went in first, and at the close of the day's play had lost six wickets for 168 runs. The highest scorers were— ■ Shrewsbury, bowled, 80 ; Barnes, not out, 60; and Briggs, not out, 8. The home teams fielding was rather weak, and owing to the rain the wicket was rather bumpy. Sydney, Yesterday. Sailed, this afternoon : The Waihora, for Auckland.
Brisbane, Yesterday, The 2Tew Guinea Protectorate,
HiM.'s gunboat Swinger has arrived at Oooktown, and announces that the protectorate over New Guinea was proclaimed on the 6th inst. The ceremony was a very impressive one. Five ships of war were at anchor off the shore, and fifty native chiefs were present.

Arrived, this afternoon : The Lusitania, from Plymouth, with the inward Brindisi mails, dated London. October 10.
