Telegrams were received from the Mudir of Dongola, stating that a force of 12,000 of the Mahdi's troops, under his fighting chief, are now marching upon Dongola.

The English Government are still hesi~ tating about introducing the Federation Enabling Bill.
The committee appointed for the purpose of selecting a Professor of Music for the Adelaide University have postponed their decision, with a view of taking time to consider the various applications. From the number of applicants, it is considered certain that a good selection will be made.
Mr Walter Scott, of Newton College, Oxford, who has been appointed Professor of Classics in the University of Sydney, will sail at Christmas.
A sample of ores obtained by Messrs Davis and Nicholls in Northern Australia have been assayed, and found to be remarkably rich in galena and gold.
