OUR MINES.

CAMBRIA

This mine has been steadily coming to the fore for some time past, and is gradually fulfilling the golden opinions ex« pressed regarding it when first opened up. The haul obtained this morning, 7Olbs specimens from the winze below the 23Wt. level, is a most encouraging one, and augurs exceedingly well for the nest level. The winze is now 30ft. deep, and the reef 4ft. thick, and very heavily mineralised, from which fact it may be counted on for a certainty that it will shape well when crushed. The stone was, the manager ioforms me, found in the footwall portion of the reef, which is somewhat of a new feature, it hitherto ha7ingbeen found chiefly in the hangingwall. Crushing was started at the Golden Crown battery this morning, with 10 head of stampers, and the manager will, if possible, keep them constantly employed.

CALEDONIAN LOW LEVEL. Good progress is being made with' the north and south crosscuts at the 640 ft level, parallel with the main slide. That going towards the Moanatairi is now in 90ft, and a good looking leader 4 inches wide, lying in favorable sandstone, has just been cut. In the south drive 100 ft has been driven, and quarlz is now showing in the face. It is apparently a branch of the large lode cut in the main east drive, and is evidently of considerable size, as it has been cut into for 2ft, and the footwall not yet touched. The large lode referred to should be found some 50ft ahead. MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. The chamber being completed, the manager has started the men to crosscnt in a northeasterly direction, to cut reefs which were worked in earlier days, but which could not be followed down on account of water. He is now of opinion, from the strike of the Cambria lode, that it has crossed the creek on the south side of the shaft, which would account for its not being touched when sinking. ROCKY POINT. A few ounces more gold was obtained this morning from the silver, and on melting at the Bank of New Zealand the total return was reduced to 59ozs 15dwts. GOLD KETUBNS. Kubantji Hill.—Grubb and party, who have struck a small patch in their tribute behind the Albion shaft, have just crushed 421bs of specimens for the rich yield of 102ozs sdwts retorted gold. This same party obtained nearly 60ozs about a fortnight ago. The leader is a mullockj one, and 3 or 4 tons of general dirt on hand are expected to give a capital return.
