TIMARU.

This day.

A fire occurred last night at half-past eleven, by which the stables of Peacock and Glaney's butchery were destroyed, with a quantity of bats, etc. The horses (five in number) were saved through the presence of mind of a passer-by, who, perceiving the tire, at once led the animals out. The loss is estimated at £100; uninsured. At 10.20 this morning a fire was discovered in a loft of the Clarendon Hotel, a very old hostelry, but it was soon extinguished, the damage being trifling.
