Thames Harbor Board.

The following is & precis report from the Harbormaster laid before the Board at its meeting this afternoon :—" Work duriDg October has been confined to keeping the road and wharf planking in repair. Shortland channel remains much in the same state as described in last report. One or two large snags have come down since, which I have given instructions for removal. Ihe buoys and beacons in the main river are all in good order, with the exception of the red buoy below Eopu Wharf, which parted its moorings and got away. I have since recovered it. Messrs Climo and Bawden's quarter having expired on the last day of October for their tailing allotments, and Mr James Brown having signified his intention to me of ap plyiug for the same, I deemed it best to call for tenders for six months' lease of various allotments, which tenders will be presented to your Board as soon as possible after receipt of them. Messrs Bawden and Olimo's agreement has been only a verbal one so far, and I would suggest that any future lease be in writing, and payment in advance. I received a cablegram last week calling me to London, and with your Board's leave I shall go. Ido not wish to resign my appointment here at present, and would respectfully request your Board to grant me six months' leave of absence without pay. If I find upon arrival in England that I am not likely to return, I will resign so that a permaneut officer may be appointed.
