£6,000,000 of 3 per cent, consols have been converted into 2J per cents.; and £4,000,000 into 2£ per cents. Obituary: Timothy D. Sullivan, the well known Home Euler, representative of Weatmeath in the House of Commons. Colonial Defence WorksIn conformity with the advice of the Military Committee, a sum of £890,000 is to be assigned out of the Imperial Exchequer for defence works in the Australasian colonies. The works to be undertaken have not, however, yet been named. London, October 17. It is reported that the Hungarian who was arrested at Liverpool with the djnamite in his possession is innocent, and has been released from custody. Attempted Dynamite Outrage. An attempt was made yesterday to blow up the Grand Stand on the Houghton racecourse. A tin containing dynamite was found on the spot, with a burned fuse attached, but it had failed to ignite the explosive, and the attempt therefore failed.
