Fires in the South.

A fire broke out at 10.30 last night in the Temple Chambers, Princes street, between tho National and New South Wales Banks. The building is the property of the National Bank, and is tenanted by various commission agents, etc. Tlie fire obtained a good hold in the rear of the building, and several offices were much damaged. The fire brigade prevented the flames spreading further. 'I he principal losers are—Matheson and Bell, J. Hooper, J. A. Chapman, and Rothschilds and Jacobs, wholesale jewellers. The insurrnces are not yet ascertained. The building is insured for £3000 in the National Office by the National Bank ; Rothschild and Jacobs have insurances of £1000 on their stock, believed to be in the Standard Office. Mr Bradshaw, M.HE, has offices in the froDt of the building, but they were not damaged. Latek. The fire was discovered by Mr Thomas Brown, who, on going into his brother's office about ten o'clock to write a letter, smelt fire; he went to a door at the back of the office, and on opening it, he saw the fire, and gave the alarm. Rothschild and Jacob's stock is damaged to the extent of £600 or £700, but is insured in the Standard Office for £1000.
Invercargill, This day. ILingswell's fellmongery, Waikav*a, a large establishment, was burned last night. No particulars are to hand, the place being about five miles out of town. The men who lived in a hut on the premises had gone to bed, when they were alarmed by the crackling of burning timber, and found the building, a twostorey one, in a blaze. The insurances are not obtainable.
